Veterinary medicine is a rapidly changing field. Every day new developments and advances help us in the treatment of diseases in your pet. What once in the past was considered state of the art medical therapies now are often commonplace, or even in some circumstances obsolete. That makes staying abreast of recent changes crucial for us in our pursuit to provide the best of possible care for all our patients.

During normal business hours we perform the routine services of a veterinary hospital in addition to providing emergency care and taking transfer patients for many of the surrounding hospitals. We welcome referrals and transfers from other clinics, new clients, walk-ins and of course emergencies especially when your regular vet is closed.

Ottawa Veterinary Hospital first opened it's doors to the public in 1967 by Dr Jim Bodendistel. Both the physical size of our practice as well as the number of people involved in caring for you and your pets needs has increased over time, the original building which was a house has had a number of facelifts and now covers approximately 6000 square feet, thanks to another major expansion and renovation during 2000/2001.

In 1974 the veterinary staff rose to four and in 1978 it was obvious there was a growing need for a veterinarian to remain overnight so a further two vets joined the team and the hospital officially became 24 hours with the express purpose of providing extended care to all hospitalized patients. Many years later our hospital continues to provide a wide variety of quality veterinary services. The hospital currently operates with over 40 staff including 12 veterinarians, all of which are dedicated to caring for your pet's health.
