An endoscopy is essentially a fibre optic method of examining a patient. It allows veterinarians to non invasively investigate an animals upper (gastroscopy) and lower (colonoscopy) digestive tract and in some cases other areas of the body.

A biopsy is taken from the stomach using an endoscope. In some instances an endoscope can be used to obtain biopsy samples of areas such as the stomach, duodenum, colon or to remove some foreign objects that have been inappropriately swallowed.
