Dr. John Swatman
Dr. Swatman joined the veterinary team at the Ottawa Veterinary Hospital in the spring of 1999 after he developed an interest in emergency medicine while working weekends at an emergency veterinary clinic in Kitchener, Ontario.
It was those experiences that attracted me to OVH an environment which would allow me to develop traditional vet-client relationships as well as work in the challenging but rewarding field of emergency medicine and surgery.
I also enjoy the advantages that a ten plus veterinary team can provide, including highly skilled veterinary technicians and modern veterinary diagnostic and surgical equipment.
My original aspirations to become a veterinarian developed while growing up with our family dog, Spicey (a rather elongated Dachshund) as well as working summers on a nearby dairy farm. Together my wife Eden and I live with a beagle named Finnigan, two cats, Isaac and Sydney, and a large tank of African Cichlids (fish). It's a mostly "peaceable kingdom", although the cats never really forgave me for bringing home the puppy "beaglette" Finnigan. My future plans include numerous hikes and camping trips with Eden and our beautiful new baby girl (July 2004) and of course, our nose driven beagle, as well as developing my veterinary skills, as medical technology and techniques continue to evolve.
Enjoy your pets!
John
